The Storms of Life, Literally

On Tuesday night, April 19, 2011, as it was becoming time for most people to enter deeper stages of sleep, Mississippi County was rudely awakened by the sound of sirens whaling that a tornado warning had been issued in the southern and central parts of the county. Among the municipalities included in the warning were Wilson, Keiser, and Osceola.

These towns and others were indeed hit by high winds and unconfirmed tornadic activity. Multiple structures and buildings were damaged or destroyed. Thankfully, we praise God in saying that no lives were lost in this storm. However, widespread power outages are still across the area and Harvest Baptist Church is in the outage.

The Arkansas Baptist State Convention disaster relief teams have been deployed in Mississippi County using Harvest Baptist Church and Eastside Baptist Church of Osceola as command centers in relief efforts. We ask for your prayers and support in this effort to support the communities affected.

We still encourage and invite you to be awakened this Easter, and not by another tornado warning. The Easter morning service will happen this Sunday at 11 am. Come to Harvest Baptist Church and hear a practical message that will help you weather the storms of life. For the uplifting of your spirit, inspirational music will be included in the service. Once again, Easter service WILL happen at 11 am Sunday morning as scheduled.

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!!!

Saturday, April 16 is the final day of church-wide participation in renovating Harvest Baptist Church in Wilson, AR. The previous work day included numerous members from First Baptist Church Marion and the surrounding area. The combined efforts of all involved proved to be an immense success. Pastor Clay Hallmark later commented via Twitter that the efforts of the day helped to accomplish 60% of the total renovation needed in the church. We praise God for the progress that has been made and we thank the volunteers who helped revitalize, rejuvenate, and renovate the building.

With the estimated 40% waiting to be renovated, you may be thinking to yourself, “Wow! That group is really holding it down in Wilson. They do not need my help.” Please, let your next thought be the complete opposite. Harvest Baptist Church also needs help with landscaping, ambience maintenance, and other tasks to be accomplished. In light of this, we strongly encourage anyone who is available to participate in the final work day at Harvest Baptist Church.

For those who wish to do so, a bus will be making the trip to Wilson from First Baptist Church Marion. Please, feel free to ride this bus to get to Harvest Baptist Church. The bus will be boarding at 7:30a Saturday morning.

God is already at work in the community of Wilson and we are extremely excited to be a part of it. We look forward to playing an active role in the community and reaching out to minister to its needs with the message of Your Life Matters.
